Mars begins production at pet food plant in Tianjin, China | PetfoodIndustry

The CN¥ 1 billion (US$138 million) facility is designed to produce 250,000 tons/year when fully operational.

In May, Mars began production at its pet food factory in Tianjin, China, according to a report from the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area (TEDA). Construction of the plant was first announced in February 2019.

TEDA reported this factory is one of Mars' largest and most advanced pet food facilities, with a total investment of nearly CN¥ 1 billion (US$138 million) and spanning 110,000 square meters. The Tianjin factory is dedicated to the research, development and production of dry food, wet food and treats. Once fully operational, the factory's annual production capacity is expected to exceed 250,000 tons.

The dry food production line is up and running, with the treat production line slated to start in the second half of the year. Future plans include additional investments to introduce a wet food production line, further enhancing and upgrading TEDA's pet industry chain.

In recent years, the pet industry in TEDA has experienced rapid growth. The area is now home to industry leaders such as Mars, Nestlé, and Ringpai. Tianjinis said to be the second largest industrial and commercial city in China and the biggest financial and commercial center of North China.
